Toughened glazing as standard
The primary security upgrade in a glazing retrofit is the glass itself. The vacuum-sealed double-glazing units we install use toughened — also known as tempered — glass as standard, a consequence of the high-temperature sealing process required to form the vacuum cavity. Toughened glass is several times stronger than ordinary annealed glass; if broken, it crumbles into small, blunt fragments rather than long shards.
The slim profile of these units allows our restoration experts to retrofit them into existing heritage frames, giving original windows a meaningful uplift in resilience without changing how they look from the street. Aesthetics and original detailing remain intact. We are experienced in upgrading the glazing of listed heritage properties.
Sash locks
As an additional measure, sash locks fix the upper and lower sashes together when closed, preventing the windows from being prised open from outside. We work with a selection of artisan ironmongers, so fittings can be matched to the period and decor of the property without looking modern or out of place.
Window restrictors
Restrictors limit how far a sash can travel and are a sensible addition for households with young children, or for upper-floor windows. They are discreet, easily disengaged from inside for cleaning and ventilation, and add a second layer of defence against opportunistic entry. Restrictors are fitted alongside the sash hardware as part of the wider renovation.
