Sash horns are the projecting extensions at the top corners of a sash window’s lower sash (and sometimes the upper sash), designed to strengthen the joint between the stile and rail-particularly where grooves for parting beads weaken the frame.
Common in Victorian and Edwardian timber sash windows, horns also serve a decorative purpose, contributing to the window’s period character. In heritage restorations, replicating original horn profiles is essential for visual authenticity and structural integrity.
