# Grilles

Grilles (also known as glazing bars or muntins) are the horizontal and vertical dividers that separate a window into smaller panes of glass. In heritage sash windows, they are typically made of timber and form traditional patterns like six-over-six or two-over-two.

While originally structural-supporting smaller, hand-blown glass panes—grilles today are often used for aesthetic authenticity. In double-glazed units, they can be installed as integral grilles (sealed between panes) or applied bars (fixed to the surface) to replicate period detail without compromising thermal performance.
