A glazing rail is the horizontal timber member within a sash window that holds the glass panes in place, forming the top or bottom edge of each glazed section. In traditional sash construction, glazing rails work with stiles and glazing bars to create the characteristic pane layout (e.g., six-over-six).
They are typically rebated to receive the glass, which is then secured with linseed oil putty-a method prized in heritage restoration for its breathability and authenticity.
