Restoration of sash box frames and sashes, followed by upgrading existing sashes with double glazing
Preparation steps
Wooden window restoration involves sanding and scraping off old layers of paint and timber. That’s why our team uses dust sheets and industrial film to ensure we leave your home as clean as it was before we started.
Repairing frames and removing sashes
While one person removes the sashes from the frame for restoration and reglazing, another begins working on the box frames, repairing any rot and preparing them for painting. The team ensures that the reglazed sashes are put back into the frames at the end of each day, so residents are not left without windows overnight.
This is a canted bay window, characterized by a flat front with angled sides that form a polygonal shape. It extends outward from the exterior wall, creating extra interior space and allowing more natural light to enter the room.
The window frame has been sanded down to bare wood, and some work has begun on the window sills.
The cladding covering the underside of the roof overhang has some rot, which became clearly visible after the paint was removed. The next step is to remove the rot and repair the affected area.
Sashes double glazing
The sashes that were removed at the beginning of the day were repaired and reglazed throughout the day and are now ready to be reinstalled into the frames.
In the “Before” image, the sash window and surrounding woodwork are visibly aged and weathered. The paint is peeling off, exposing the underlying wood to the elements, leading to further decay.
The “After” image demonstrates the results of the restoration and reglazing process.
Final Result: A Renewed and Beautiful Bay Window
The photo below captures the final result of a successful sash window restoration and reglazing project, showcasing the restored bay window in all its glory. The once deteriorated and aging window has been transformed into a stunning feature that enhances the overall appearance of the property.
