# Scotia moulding

Scotia moulding is a concave, quarter-round decorative trim commonly used in period joinery to soften the transition between surfaces-such as where a window sill meets the wall or between stair treads and risers.

In sash window installations, scotia is often fitted beneath the sill or around architraves to add subtle refinement while concealing small gaps or uneven edges. Traditionally crafted from timber and finished in microporous paint, it enhances both aesthetics and craftsmanship in heritage restorations.
