An architrave is the decorative moulding that frames a window or door opening, covering the joint between the frame and the wall.
In period properties, architraves are often substantial and finely detailed-reflecting Georgian, Victorian, or Edwardian styles-and contribute significantly to a room’s architectural character.
During window restoration, preserving or faithfully replicating original architraves is essential for maintaining historic integrity, especially in Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas.
