# Sill

The sill is the horizontal timber component at the base of a window frame, angled outward to shed rainwater away from the building. In sash windows, it forms the structural and weather-resistant foundation of the frame and is often the first area to show signs of decay due to prolonged moisture exposure.

During restoration, sills are carefully repaired or replaced using durable, breathable materials like Accoya® wood and finished with microporous paint to ensure longevity while preserving historic appearance.
