# Lift

A lift (or sash lift) is a small, often brass or timber handle fitted to the bottom rail of a sash window’s lower sash, providing a grip to raise and lower the window smoothly.

In period properties, lifts are both functional and decorative-typically matching the style of other ironmongery like fasteners and pulleys. Modern heritage lifts are designed to be low-profile and reversible, preserving the window’s historic character while improving usability, especially after refurbishment or double glazing.
