Laminated glass consists of two or more layers of glass bonded together with a tough, transparent interlayer-typically polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or SentryGlas® (ionoplast).
If broken, the interlayer holds the glass fragments in place, preventing dangerous shards from falling and providing enhanced security, safety, and sound insulation.
In heritage windows, laminated glass is often used in overhead glazing, ground-floor sashes, or doors to meet Part Q (security) and Building Regulations for safety glazing—while maintaining a clear, authentic appearance when paired with traditional putty glazing.
