Sash cords are the braided cotton or synthetic ropes traditionally used in counterbalanced sash windows to connect the moving sash to hidden weights inside the box frame. The cord runs over a pulley system which sits at the frame’s top when the window moves to open or close.
This design enables the weight to counterbalance the window sash mass which results in smooth and balanced operation. The cords tend to wear down and become frayed or stretched or break after a long period of time when window upgrades require heavier glass.
The use of modern high-strength polyester-core cords with low stretch properties provides long-term performance and dependable operation when installed with slimline or vacuum insulated glazing.
